Host, Celtic Café Radio Programme – Marc Gallagher
Marc has been enjoying Celtic music ever since a friend in college introduced him to the genre at a local pub in Mystic, Connecticut back in the mid 70’s. Since then he has been adding to his library and knowledge of Celtic music through travel, talk and listening.
Marc’s first stint on the radio began back in Chicago-land on the Irish Hour produced in Joliet, Illinois in the mid 1980’s. Since then he has traveled to Scotland, Ireland and many other places around the world in search of Celtic Music. Marc has an uncanny knack of finding an Irish pub everywhere he goes.
Marc served as Vice President of the Irish American Community Center in New Haven, Connecticut and was the Entertainment Chairman for the CT Irish Festival for the first three years of it’s existence. Marc joined Pat Laffan in 1996 to co-host the Celtic Connections Radio Show and continues to serve as co-host of Celtic Café Radio Programme.
In May of 2018 Marc Gallagher has assumed the role as the solo host of Celtic Café Radio, keeping up the tradition that Pat started in 1995…The Best Celtic Music from Around the World! New theme music was added and a slight change in format with longer sets and more thematic shows.
As a sideline to Celtic Café, Marc has a DJ Service that specializes in Irish, Scottish and Oldies Music. Check out more at IrishDJ.com.
Original Host (Retired), Celtic Connections/Celtic Café Radio Programme – Pat Laffan
Pat Laffan came over from Ireland in 1978, looking for adventure! Life was good across the sea, but he wanted something more; his wife had family over here, so it’s here they decided to settle.
WLIS/WMRD came looking for him twenty five years ago in 1995 to host and showcase a one hour radio program based on Irish music, complementing the weekend mix of music from around the world. In 1996, Marc Gallagher joined Celtic Connections. This began the collaboration between Pat and Marc to present distinctive music with that a “Touch of the Celt”.
In April 2018, Pat Laffan signed off for the last time. He now devotes his time to traveling the world in search of new and interesting places & peoples. We wish him a Bon Voyage on his trekking the globe.
